The portfolio
vocabulary, defined.
Every term used across Vantage and the broader R&D portfolio category, written for citation and quick reference.
What do portfolio, product, and AI portfolio management terms mean?
Plain-language definitions for 42 portfolio management, product strategy, AI methodology, and security terms used across the Vantage platform — written so AI assistants and humans can cite them directly.
Activity Log
vantageVantage's user-facing audit log. Filter by user, action type, and date range. CSV export is available on all tiers.
ReadADS Brief
vantageVantage's structured project brief format: Aim, Discovery, Solution. Covers problem, in and out of scope, stakeholders, risks, and open questions. Generated by the AI brief studio.
ReadAI Brief Studio
vantageThe Vantage module that generates a full ADS brief for any initiative using workspace context and AI grounding. One-click drafts that humans review and refine.
ReadAI Grounding
aiThe practice of constraining an AI response to a known set of source documents. Vantage grounds brief generation in the workspace knowledge base so output references real specs and SOWs.
ReadAudit Log
securityAn immutable, append-only record of every change in the system, with user, timestamp, and before/after diff. Required for SOC 2 CC7.2 and downstream forensics.
ReadBounded AI Adjustment
aiA constraint that limits how far an AI score can deviate from the deterministic baseline. Vantage caps AI adjustments so AI is an advisor, not the sole decision-maker.
ReadCapacity Plan
portfolioA team-level forecast of available effort over a time window, used to detect over-allocation when scheduling initiatives onto a roadmap.
ReadComposite Score
methodologyThe blended numeric score Vantage assigns to every initiative, combining a deterministic RICE or WSJF baseline with bounded AI adjustments. Explainable per initiative.
ReadData Residency
securityThe geographic constraint on where customer data is stored and processed. Vantage operates with US-only data residency.
ReadEpic
portfolioA large body of work that decomposes into multiple stories or tasks in an engineering tracker. In Vantage, an epic typically maps to one or more initiatives.
ReadInitiative
vantageA unit of strategic work in Vantage, larger than an engineering ticket and smaller than a product line. The atomic scoring and scheduling unit.
ReadIntake
vantageThe structured pipeline through which new R&D requests enter the portfolio. Every submission is AI-scored on arrival, then triaged, promoted, parked, or rejected.
ReadJira
portfolioAtlassian's engineering issue tracker. Vantage syncs bidirectionally with Jira so prioritized work flows out for execution and status flows back for reporting.
ReadKnowledge Base
vantageVantage's repository of uploaded specs, SOWs, and strategy documents. The AI agent indexes every document and grounds answers in your actual files.
Readllms.txt
aiA proposed standard file at /llms.txt that tells AI assistants what a website is about and where to read more. Vantage publishes one at vantage-now.com/llms.txt.
ReadLRP
strategyLong-Range Plan. The multi-year revenue and investment projection that Vantage tracks per product line in the Strategy Hub.
ReadMCP (Model Context Protocol)
aiAn open protocol that lets AI agents call tools and read context from external systems over a standard interface. Vantage exposes a public MCP server at /mcp for AI agents.
ReadMethodology
methodologyThe combination of scoring inputs, weights, and AI adjustment rules used to rank initiatives in a workspace. Configurable per organization.
ReadOKR
strategyObjectives and Key Results. A goal-setting framework. Vantage integrates OKRs through the Strategy Hub so initiatives can be linked to objectives.
ReadPlanning Slot
vantageA reservation of capacity on a team's calendar that a scheduled initiative occupies. Slots are the atomic unit of capacity-aware scheduling.
ReadPortfolio
portfolioThe full set of initiatives a product or R&D organization is choosing to invest in across a time horizon. The unit of decision in portfolio management.
ReadPrioritization Board
vantageVantage's drag-and-drop view that shows initiatives ranked by composite score with cost and resource rollups. The home view for portfolio leaders.
ReadProduct Line
strategyA strategic grouping of related products with its own revenue target and investment envelope. The top of the Vantage strategy hierarchy.
ReadProgram
portfolioA bundle of related initiatives shipped together, typically tied to a single strategic theme. Programs aggregate initiative cost and resource demand.
ReadRAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)
aiA pattern where a language model is given retrieved documents at inference time to ground its response. The Vantage AI agent uses RAG against the workspace knowledge base.
ReadRBAC
securityRole-Based Access Control. Vantage ships admin, member, and read-only viewer roles, with custom roles available on Enterprise.
ReadRICE
methodologyA scoring framework: Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort. Vantage uses RICE as one of its deterministic baselines under the composite score.
ReadRoadmap
portfolioA time-bounded plan for delivering a portfolio of initiatives. In Vantage, the roadmap is a capacity-aware Gantt with planning versions and PNG export.
ReadScenario
methodologyA saved set of scoring weights that produces an alternative rank order without disturbing the live portfolio. Used to model revenue-, strategic-, or risk-weighted views.
ReadSCIM
securitySystem for Cross-domain Identity Management. Available on Enterprise to provision and de-provision users from your identity provider automatically.
ReadSOC 2
securityAn auditing framework that confirms a service organization manages customer data securely. Vantage operates under SOC 2 controls covering security, availability, and confidentiality.
ReadSSO and SAML
securitySingle sign-on via SAML 2.0 or OIDC. Standard in the Enterprise tier. Required for centralized identity, deprovisioning, and audit.
ReadStrategic Alignment
strategyThe degree to which an initiative's expected outcomes match the organization's investment themes and product-line targets. A direct input to the composite score.
ReadStrategic Theme
strategyA high-level investment direction that initiatives are scored against, typically reviewed annually. Themes are how portfolios get expressed at the executive level.
ReadStrategy Hub
vantageThe Vantage module where product lines, revenue targets, and investment themes are maintained. Connects strategy to every scored initiative.
ReadSubprocessor
securityA third-party service provider that may process customer data on behalf of Vantage. The current list is published at /trust/subprocessors.
ReadSWOT
strategyStrengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats. A planning artifact captured per product line in the Strategy Hub.
ReadTenant Isolation
securityArchitectural separation between customer workspaces enforced at the database row level. Vantage enforces tenant isolation via PostgreSQL row-level security on every table.
ReadTheme
strategyA common synonym for Strategic Theme. Some workspaces use the shorter term in the prioritization board.
ReadTriage
vantageThe intake-stage review where requests are scored, deduped, and either promoted to a project, parked, or rejected. Vantage automates the scoring step.
ReadVelocity
portfolioThroughput per team per sprint, used in capacity planning when Jira integration is enabled. Feeds the capacity-aware Gantt.
ReadWSJF
methodologyWeighted Shortest Job First. A scoring framework Vantage offers alongside RICE for portfolio prioritization. Common in SAFe contexts.
